Comparing Primary Depletion and GCEOR in the Montney Formation

How Condensate and Volatile Oil Behave Under GCEOR Conditions

This paper presents the first direct comparison of volatile oil and gas condensate recovery performance under primary depletion and Gas Cycling Enhanced Oil Recovery (GCEOR) in Montney porous media. Using a patented lab setup simulating real reservoir conditions, it explores how permeability, phase behaviour, and injection parameters affect recovery. The findings show that while volatile oils perform better in primary depletion, condensates often respond more favourably to GCEOR—especially under lean gas cycling.
