Short-Term Deployment Instructions
How to Use a Short-Term Radon Testing Device
Short-term radon measurements are valuable for capturing a snapshot of radon conditions. Short-term testing identifies potential issues or can be used post-mitigation to determine the effectiveness of mitigation. Monitoring using a short-term Radon Testing Device must be conducted for two to 10 days.
Radon Test Kits Include:
- Rental of Radon Testing Device
- How to Use Your Radon Testing Device Instructions
- Sample Chain of Custody Record
- Additional Information Form
- Return Address Sticker and Shipping Box
- Radon Testing Report with recommendations upon completion of lab analysis
Closed Building Conditions
When short-term testing for radon, Health Canada suggests closed building conditions are followed. These conditions should be followed 12 hours prior to starting your test.
- Windows must be kept closed and doors opened only long enough to go in and out.
- Exhaust fans, window air conditioners, or whole-house fans should not be operated.
- Fireplaces (unless they are the primary heat source) must not be used and the dampers must be closed.
- Permanent radon mitigation systems, if installed, should be functioning (on) for at least 24 hours prior to and during the measurement period. In addition, measurements of less than 4 days should not be conducted during times of severe weather.
