AGAT Laboratories has expanded its air analysis capabilities in Calgary, Alta. to include whole air testing using Entech Instruments’ Silonite™ canisters, commonly referred to as summa canisters.
AGAT offers both grab and integrated sampling options, along with 1.4 L and 6 L certified canisters to accommodate a range of project requirements. Analysis is performed locally at AGAT’s Air Quality Laboratory in Calgary, reducing sample transport costs and enables faster processing when hold times are critical.
“This expansion in services continues to align with our vision to provide end-to-end analytical testing with the most advanced instrumentation,” says Marissa Reckmann, CEO, AGAT Laboratories. “Clients in Western Canada now have convenient access to AGAT’s technical expertise and expanding air quality services for routine monitoring to complex investigations.”
Designed with a chemically inert silica-based coating, Silonite™ canisters help preserve sample integrity by minimizing the adsorption, reaction, or loss of target compounds during collection, transport, and storage.
AGAT’s process involves EPA Method TO-15A and ASTM D5504, wherein air samples are analyzed for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and reduced sulphur compounds (RSCs) at trace-level concentrations (ppb).
These expanded capabilities support emissions monitoring, petroleum and natural gas operations, landfill and wastewater applications, remediation, and site characterization, amongst other use cases.
While today air sampling canisters are often referred to as summa canisters, SUMMA® actually refers to the process used to apply a nickel/chromium oxide layer. Almost all canisters today are not SUMMA®, but the superior silica-lined Silonite™ canisters — the only “inertness-repairable” canisters on the market.
